Today as I was riding the metro into DC and reading my newest edition of Time mag, i got to thinkin' about my politics.
What are my own views and stances on the political issues of today? How many cards do I have in my deck and how do I play them? This worried me. I've always walked the middle line. But walking the middle ground gets you no where; it just keeps you safe and makes you everybody's best friend. So what do I really believe?
Now is a day that has been long in coming. I have decided to put it all out on the table. No more hiding or playing. I don't have it all figured out but this is what I do know.
I want a strong separation of Church and State. No one can take your right to choose who and how you will worship. I fear strong Christian Fundamenatist groups are trying to bring the two together. Why would I fear this when I am a strong Christain? Because I don't want to be forced into a religion that is not true. Once when I was 18, and new to VA, I went to Lynchburg, to go to a haunted house that had been advertised on the radio. It was supposidly the scariest haunted house EVER. Being new to VA I was not aware of certain religious affiliations in Lynchburg so I got a few friends together and we drove over. We waited in line for over two hours to get enter.
Once inside I was convinced that it was indeed the scariest haunted house I'd ever attened, until we got to the end. The last room we entered was not like the other. It hd no ghosts or mad men, but a big as life cross with a man in a loin cloth all covered in blood, depicting the crucifiction of Jesus Christ. I was mortified! Then we had to slide down a slide to exit and cross right in front of the bloody scene. When we got the botton of the slide there were people at the bottom asking us what what we had thought of the haunted house, what I had seen left me speechless. we were then usherd into a side room of a tent where we were asked to sit down. As we sat the doors were closed and blocked, as a man came to the front of the room and began to expressivly tell us that we were all going to "Burn" if we did not accept Jesus before we left the tent that evening. I have never felt that my rights were violated than at the moment! What right does someone have to tell you that you have to accpet their faith or you will burn in Hell? That is the reason we have a separtion between church and state, so noone has the power to force thier beliefs on you.
Aboration is wrong. I am all for a women's right to choose. She has the right to choose for herself what to do with her body, but she must be ready and willing to accpet the consequences of what she does with her body. Sex leads to pregancy and everybody knows this. The first choice made is the desicion to have sex. After that you must be willing to accpet that you may get pregnant. Killing an inncocent fetus that was produced from your actions is not acceptable!
Gay Marriage: I am all for people loving whomever they please, but I am more for upholding God's Plan and living the way He would have me live. Following God is a choice I make everyday, just like how I control my thoughts and actions is a choice. Whom do you love more?
As for everything else, I am still finguring it all out and learning so I can make clear cut choices. Socrate once said, "Know thyself," i am trying to.
