Looking at 30 and Smiling!

Since I turned 30 a few months ago I have been trying to think of reasons why 30 actually feels pretty good. I thought turning 30 was going to be horrible. I though I would feel the life being sucked out of me by the vacuum called time. But, it wasn't. I thought my face would begin to wrinkle and my hair would turn grey. I have no more wrinkles than I had at 28 or 29 and my hair is so filled with color that even if I did have a few grey hairs I'd never know. Basically, turning 30 wasn't as bad as I thought. It was in fact, filled with optimism.

Many of my dearest friends are all rolling over into their 30s this year. I have been searching the Internet for books, poems and lists that talk about good things about turning 30. I found more negative ones than positive. So I decided to write my own.

  • Married, not single anymore and never have to go on another first date again.
  • My baby
  • I have a house. A real one with a picket fence and everything!
  • I can say 'no'.
  • More self control to allow me to accomplish my goals
  • I have another decade to fill up with greatness
  • I am in bed by 10pm and don't think that is lame.
  • I think it is just fine to stay in on a Friday night.
  • I don't take my body for granted
  • I have skills and I am not afraid to use them
  • I have no problem telling my Spouse "how it is"
  • I can use a round brush and a blow dryer at the same time!
  • I drive a new car, not a broken one built in 1987
  • I have overcome a lot of silliness but still have a good sense of humor
  • More reverence
  • Happy and grateful I had a good time in my 20's
  • not as many zits
  • I put on make up better
  • Getting up early feels good rather than like a chore
  • I discovered Yoga and how much I love it.
  • I know how calming a cup of herbal tea is
  • Relationships are more valuable
  • I know the difference between a friend and an acquaintance
  • I don't have to be every body's best friend
  • I can be me and that is good enough
  • I have new goals to reach and I already started
  • I see the value and danger of procrastination
  • I know that being close to family is worth the sacrifice
  • Being alone is so nice when I have a couple of hours by myself, but I still love the return on my loving husband and little boy.
  • I still look like i'm in my 20s :)

I love being 30. I am reveling in all of the things I want to do in my 30s. I did a lot in my twenties but I am going to do some much more in my 30s. Feel free to comment about how you feel or felt about turning 30 and let us rejoice in getting older together!

So I know I have 2 years before I am 30 but I will say I hope I am as optimistic as you are. I love the blow drying and round brush thing. I can't do that yet, I am running out of time. Love ya Kristin.

I'm trying to have a more eternal perspective on beauty and youth as well. Good list. 30 doesn't seem half bad.

30, flirty and thriving...Jennifer Garner has it right..30 should be great. We'll see...I'm coming up on it at the end of the month. I don't feel old, but I do...what can you do?

Get a journal and start making goals and a list of all the things you want to learn and do in your next decade. It's like a new begining, except you are smarter.

I love your list! It makes me not dread being 30 quite as much. We'll see in a few months if my list is as good as yours!

I MISS YOU!!!!!!!!

This is a good list. I haven't mastered the round brush thing either but a lot of the other things I 100% agree with. I think our 30's are going to be great! Less than one month away for me and I'll be making a list of my own.
