We went to North Carolina this past weekend. I wish I had some pictures to share. My digital is on the fritz. We stayed in Charleston and boy oh boy is that one beautiful city! The homes and the history are striking! I really enjoyed myself, although I found myself upset at the market the natives refer to as "the slave market", our tour guard said that that is just its nick name and no people were sold there. But I don't believe him. I still found it disturbing. I felt as if the city were trying to use PR tactics to cover up their past and make it seem as "it wasn't so bad as you'd think", that bugged me.
But the city was beautiful and had a nice European feel to it. There was nothing cheap about the city either. It is pricey! To take a carriage ride around town it is $20 a pop, Tour of Fort Sumpter will cost you $17 a pop,and some of the more popular plantaions will cost you $20 a pop to get in, and then extra if you want to go into the house ect.
We stayed at the Lodge Ally Inn, which was nice and expensive, but it is part of timeshare organization and it is crawling with sales people who are into heavy sales techniques that make you feel like you are being watched by vultures. Not a comfortable situation. I would, however, like to stay at Charleston Place, that hotel is worth every penny, if you have that many pennnies... Also One Meeting St. Inn is a bed and breakfast and is another place that I would like to stay. It is one beautiful house. It belonged to the daughter of Mr Cahoun, the weathiest man in Charleston. If you have the pennies it worth evey penny and expect to stay three nights for that is the minimun.
That was our trip. We had fun, we went on Ghost tours and carriage rides, ate fudge and pralines, and ate at some great and yummy restaurants! One being Magnolia's, very good!!!
Go to Charelston, SC but make sure you bring plenty of Dough!
The picture is of my Matt and my Bridal girls from the night before the wedding. I love these people! I love my Matthew!!!
